The Best Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is my go-to cookie recipe. The secret is browning the butter until it develops a deep, toffee-like aroma, and letting the dough rest overnight in the fridge.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (browned)
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp sea salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips/chunks
Instructions
- Brown the butter: Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Keep swirling it until it foams and you see brown specks forming. Remove from heat immediately and let it cool for 15 minutes.
- Mix the browned butter with the brown and white sugars.
- Whisk in the eggs and vanilla until the mixture lightens.
- Fold in the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt) just until combined.
- Add the chocolate chips.
- Important: Let the dough chill in the fridge overnight.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt while hot!
Enjoy!
